CUSTOMISEROCKET ENGINEERING / GuliKit TMR
Contactless GuliKit TMR sensing for precise, consistent stick movements and significantly less wear-related stick drift.
01 / THE TECHNOLOGY
TMR stands for Tunnel Magnetoresistance. It detects stick position through magnetic resistance changes, without wear-prone sliding contacts in the sensor.
Schematic exploded view. AI image
In conventional potentiometers, a contact slides along a resistive track. GuliKit TMR sensors instead measure contactlessly how the magnetic field changes as the stick moves. This eliminates typical electrical abrasion on the measuring track.
The magnet moves with the joystick.
TMR sensors respond sensitively to the changed magnetic orientation.
Electronics convert the sensor signal into a precise X and Y position.
TMR’s strength is the combination of contactless sensing, high magnetic sensitivity and low sensor consumption.

03 / THE COMPARISON
The technologies mainly differ in how stick position is measured and whether an electrical sliding contact is needed.
| FEATURE | POTENTIOMETER | HALL EFFECT | GuliKit TMR ROCKET CHOICE |
|---|---|---|---|
| 01Measuring principle | Mechanical sliding contact on a resistive track | Contactless measurement of magnetic field strength | Contactless measurement through magnetic resistance changes |
| 02Sensor wear | Contact surfaces can wear through friction | No electrical sliding contact | No electrical sliding contact |
| 03Sensitivity | Depends on resistive track and calibration | High magnetic sensitivity | Very high magnetic sensitivity and linear signal response |
| 04Sensor power consumption | Low | Typically higher than TMR | About 0.1 to 0.3 mA per sensor according to GuliKit |
| 05Typical drift risk | Can increase through abrasion, dust and aged contact tracks | Wear-related sensor drift significantly reduced | Wear-related sensor drift significantly reduced |
| 06Suitable for | Standard use and budget controllers | Durable, contactless stick measurement | Demanding players, precise control and long use |
TMR does not prevent every possible input error. It does eliminate the wear-prone electrical sliding contact that is a typical cause of stick drift in conventional potentiometers. That is why Rocket Games uses GuliKit TMR.
Clear answers about technology, stick drift and GuliKit TMR sticks in Rocket PS5 controllers.
TMR sticks are controller joysticks with tunnel magnetoresistance sensors. They determine position contactlessly through magnetic field changes and therefore need no electrical sliding track for position measurement.
TMR stands for Tunnel Magnetoresistance. A sensor element’s electrical resistance changes with magnetic field orientation. Controller electronics translate the signal into the stick’s X and Y position.
Both technologies measure position magnetically without contact. Hall sensors directly detect magnetic field strength, while TMR sensors use magnetic resistance changes. TMR is its own sensor technology, not another name for Hall Effect.
TMR eliminates the wear-prone electrical sliding contact of conventional potentiometers and significantly reduces a typical cause of stick drift. Mechanical wear, dirt, calibration or other components can still affect input errors. We therefore do not promise that drift is impossible forever.
GuliKit combines contactless TMR sensing with high magnetic sensitivity and low sensor consumption. Rocket Games uses these modules for precise, consistent stick movements in its PS5 controllers.
Yes. Consistent position signals and controlled micro-movements help especially with aiming and fine camera adjustments. The actual feel also depends on calibration, deadzone, stick tension, cap and game settings.
Rocket TMR controllers are based on PS5 controllers and designed for PS5 and compatible PC games. Supported PC features can depend on the game and platform used.
Like other precise stick modules, TMR sticks must be configured and checked for the controller electronics. Rocket Games tunes installed modules before delivery; additional game deadzone settings remain a personal preference.
